Have you grown use to the feelings of discomfort, tightness and/or the occasional pain in your back? However, perhaps this time the pain is a little more pronounced because you “overdid it” again. In any case you know that you’ll get better soon. You recovered last time just fine, didn’t even miss a day of work. You’ll just take it real slow and won’t bend that way again for a few days! Then there is the time when you know that you will need treatment because simply walking or sitting is just excruciating.
Welcome to the road of chronic recovery. It’s a crowded one. As healing times stretch from hours to days…. and then from days to weeks our habits, lifestyles and confidence in ourselves begins to erode. With more missed work days and missed social events we begin to realize that we have a chronic condition. Acupuncture for back pain can help you get back on your feet and rolling again!
What causes Back Pain?
Your back is comprised of muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones. Nerves travel from inbetween the vertebrae of the spine to the rest of the body. Spinal discs which act like shock absorbers and allow your spine to bend seperate each vertebrae.
Common Causes of Back Pain
– Improper lifting
– Poor posture
– Injuries
– Pregnancy
Muscle strains(tears) from improper or sudden movements are the primary cause of back pain. Lifting heavy objects, injuries, poor posture, pregnancy and failing to use your legs to help lift things are some of the most common causes.
More serious but less common underlying causes for back pain include fractures, slipped or ruptured vertebral discs, arthritis, osteoporosis(brittle bones), curvature of the spinal column(scoliosis), urinary infections and kidney stones. Mostly other causes affect the very old or young and are outside of usual acupuncture practice. Back pain symptoms can include mostly a sensation of stiffness, an achy dull pain and/or sharp localized or radiating nerve pain. Muscular and joint symptoms can also worsen with changes in the weather due to fluctuations in barometric pressures.
